Transcript:

The speaker begins by sharing their challenging experience with altitude sickness during a trip. This condition significantly affected their ability to enjoy the trip and participate in activities. Despite the discomfort and the physical toll it took on them, this experience set the stage for personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the support they received.

"My rose and thorn are connected, so I'll start with the thorn. I had the pleasure of experiencing altitude sickness for most of my trip, which was not very conducive to a good time.

But as my rose, I'm so thankful for the guides on the trip who looked out for me, helped when I needed it, and didn't make me feel bad for slowing the group down. Sometimes the physical struggle of being sick while having to hike definitely made me a lot more comfortable being uncomfortable in the outdoors, and I've thought about how I felt then when on other backpacking trips, when things get difficult physically, I always know that I can push through since I've done it before.

Not to be too cheesy, but my bud is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I met Elijah, my now fiancé and partner of almost six years, on my trip, and I really couldn't be more thankful for bringing us together."
