"All Hands on Deck:"
Profiles in Engineering
All Hands on Deck!” engages current and former OU Engineering students, staff, faculty, and administrators in the process of preserving their own histories, with the goal of documenting the efforts and accomplishments of OU Engineers in overcoming and eliminating barriers that prevent the full engagement of talented individuals in the field and practice of engineering at OU and beyond. The project’s title, “All Hands on Deck!,” was inspired by a commitment shared by the National Academies of Science and by OU that realizing the full potential of science and technology to improve human life requires “all hands on deck”--or the inclusion of every person of talent, regardless of ethnicity, race, or gender, in the work of maximizing the promise of science and technology. Offering participants several options for engagement--a short voicemail-type contribution, a Story Corps-style conversation, and a long-form oral historical interview--“All Hands on Deck!”: Profiles in Engineering will map, memorialize, and make accessible the experiences and accomplishments of the OU Engineering community through digital and physical instillations and exhibits.
